2018 vertrok ik richting Italië om een zeer bijzondere auto aan te kopen uit de nalatenschap van Lorella Pillitu te Bassano del Grappa. De verkoop werd gedaan door haar zoon. Het betrof een Daimler XJ 40 uit 1992 in de kleur Brooklands green met een Biscuit lederen interieur met groene piping. De Daimler werd in 1992 gekocht bij de Jaguar dealer Automotori srl te Vicenza door de Heer Pillitu, in 1994 overleed de Hr. Pillitu, Lorella dacht er niet over om de auto te verkopen en heeft er nog een korte tijd mee gereden, met 11022 km werd de auto gestald in een verwarmde en geklimatiseerde ruimte. De staat van de auto overtrof al mijn verwachtingen en de koop was snel gedaan, op de autoambulance en mee naar Holland.
Kort daarna kwam de auto in een collectie van overwegend prewar SS types en latere Jaguars en Daimlers. De eigen monteur heeft de Daimler geheel nagezien, alle vloeistoffen werden ververst en de Daimler werd van nieuwe Pirelli banden voorzien. Elk jaar wordt de APK vernieuwd en af en toe wordt er met de Daimler gereden. De huidige KM stand is slechts een onvoorstelbare 12135
